Famous economist, professor of economics at the National Development Research Institute of Peking University, professor of Dongbei University of Finance and Economics


Bachelor of mathematics, Beijing Normal University (now Capital Normal University) (1982);

Master of Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences (1984);

Doctor of economics, University of Hawaii (1990).


In 1969, he went to Heilongjiang production and Construction Corps to do farm work (agricultural work), mechanical repair (machinist), steel casting (steelworker), etc;

In 1974, he was transferred back to an electronic research institute in Beijing as a worker, during which he invented the "anti jump bond integral circuit";

1977 - 1981, he studied in the Mathematics Department of Beijing Normal University and obtained a Bachelor of Science degree;

1981 - 1984, he studied in the Institute of system science, Chinese Academy of Sciences and obtained master degree in mathematics and control theory;

In 1985, he visited the East West cultural research center of the United States;

1986 - 1990, he studied in the Department of Economics of the University of Hawaii and obtained the doctor's degree in economics;

1990 - 1993, he served as a postdoctoral researcher of "East Asia economic development, culture and institutional change" project of the East West cultural center of the University of Hawaii;

1991 - 1995, teaching in Department of economics, University of Hong Kong;

In 1996, he was a visiting researcher of Gerhard Mercator University in Duisburg, Germany;

Since March 1997, he has been teaching in the National Development Research Institute of Peking University as an economics professor, lecturing on "mathematical economics" and "basis of institutional analysis".


He has published many papers and more than 20 works in social science front, academic monthly and other magazines.

For more than ten years, Professor Wang Dingding has been thinking about economic development and moral reconstruction. The former is about improving people's living standards in the short term, while the latter is about harmonious social development in the long term.

Wang Dingding guides us to reflect on the research methods of Social Sciences and examine the problems from different perspectives. Since Snow put forward the theory of "two cultures" in the 1950s, many scholars have tried to take a "third way" of integrating "science" and "humanities". Wang Dingding, with such ambition, began to study brain science, social psychology and social phenomenology.

Yu Shicun: I think of Wang Dingding many times. The Tang people's saying that "No one in the world don’t know him" always comes into being spontaneously. However, the phenomenon of "my friend Hu Shizhi" was also can be used on Wang Dingding during the May 4th movement.

After the proposal of the fuel tax reform plan in 2008, Wang Dingding and ten other professors jointly wrote a letter to Premier Wen, believing that the fuel tax rate proposed in the plan is too low. It is suggested that starting from the height of energy conservation and emission reduction, the fuel tax rate should be greatly increased, and 3-4 yuan per litre is the most appropriate.
